he skipper of the first Russian boat to enter the Rolex Sydney Hobart in almost 20 years is now racing the clock in Auckland, New Zealand, to have a new keel built after large cracks in the existing keel were discovered earlier this week.

t was a concentration game on the fourth day of the Aruba Heineken Catamaran Regatta. The light and variable breeze caused big gains and losses on the course. The sailors had to be very cautious, as the tactics changed all the time.

he Cape Doctor welcomed Belgium sailor Michel Kleinjans to South Africa as he stormed across the finish line to win the single-handed division of the Portimão Global Ocean Race. The Cape Doctor is the name given by locals to the gale force winds that blow down the backside of Table Mountain taking with it all germs and pollution and flinging them far out to sea.

n Monday November 17 2008, Mitch Booth and Pim Nieuwenhuis extended their lead at the Aruba Heineken Catamaran Regatta. The Dutchmen took both bullets in again tricky sailing conditions on the Caribbean Sea. Pols/De Waard and Zanen/Heemskerk are tied on ten points, with Pols/De Waard still in second position. It was old style racing today, as the race committee decided to go for a tri-angle course.

he British yacht, Team Mowgli, co-skippered by Jeremy Salvesen and David Thomson, finished Leg 1 of the Portimão Global Ocean Race as a stiff southeasterly wind had them scrambling to reduce sail the last mile into Cape Town. After a terrific morning under clear skies and with a Code 5 spinnaker set, the duo ran out of wind in the lee of Table Mountain.
