iou called his team and said bluntly: “We have been dismasted. We are in the islands.” When the call was made PRB was in a position approximately 55 deg S and 65 deg 59 W, about 7.8 miles to the North West of the Cape Horn light. Both skippers Riou and Le Cam are safe and well.

Ericsson 4 Will Not Be Penalised

ricsson 4 will not be penalised under the protest filed by the Rule Management Group against the team. The International Jury found the team was not obliged to inform the Measurers of changes made to the bow of its boat, and therefore the team had not broken a rule.

Telefonica Blue withdraws protest

elefonica Blue has withdrawn its protest against Ericsson 3, with agreement from the International Jury. Jury Chairman Bryan Willis received a letter from Richard Slater of Telefonica Blue requesting the International Jury allow the protest to be withdrawn and following discussions, allowed the Spanish team to drop the matter.

They are between systems as one moves off to the east while another builds momentum from the west. The problem, however, is that with the respite comes more complicated sailing.

t 00h26 GMT Jean Le Cam informed his shore team that he was in distress two hundred miles west of Cape Horn. Jean Le Cam (VM Matériaux) was able to telephone his shore team in France to inform that he was experiencing serious difficulties on board his monohull. It was possible that he was capsizing, as the phone went dead at that point.
