More few days on sea |

|
Servane and Albert on Educación sin Fronteras celebrate 100 days at sea, the longest time for both the youngest and oldest skippers in the Barcelona World Race!
The last team in the race currently making their way towards the Straits of Gibraltar - just under 450 miles away from the scoring gate at the 1800 GMT position report, and has come across a light patch of wind, slowing their speeds to just 3-4 knots. |
|
o make a more direct heading the Franco-Spanish team are having to “grin and bear” the light conditions, as Servane explained:
“The prediction is that it is going to be lighter until tomorrow but we don’t really have that much choice as to where we head today.”
The prediction is more optimistic for tomorrow and Educacion sin Fronteras should pick up again with an estimated time of arrival at the Straits for Saturday 23rd February.
“We will both be up on deck for the passage,” said experienced Catalan skipper Bargues, “the Strait is about 40 miles long, and if you take into account that we will be moving slowly about 4 knots and sailing upwind, it should take us about 12 hours. Servane will probably be inside continuously checking the screens both the GPS and the radar until we get through. Further on the Alboran Sea looks like being a lot calmer and our ETA for Barcelona is Tuesday afternoon 26th February.”
The arrivals of the all the boats in the Barcelona World Race fleet have been extremely emotional, but for Albert Bargues, sailing into his home town will be particularly significant.
“As we get closer to land the future starts to have its place among the present,” commented the Spaniard this morning, “ I didn’t really want to talk about it before. Servane has her projects and now we actually talk about it - what we would and wouldn’t like to do. But what I am thinking about more is how I am going to approach life more than what I will actually do – and that is one thing that I have learnt a lot with this round the world race.”
