More good news on the America's Cup front?
As Australia is celebrating the 25th anniversary of their historical victory this week, a legal compromise between Alinghi and BMWOracle could put the America’s Cup back on track.
According to The Sunday Times, it would appear that common sense has prevailed following the latest legal ruling in the US Supreme Court. New hope emerged during the weekend of a peaceful solution to the legal war that has dogged the America’s Cup for the past year.
Ernesto Bertarelli (Alinghi) as well as major challenging syndicates including Larry Ellison (BMW-Oracle) and Sir Keith Mills (Team Origin) had a series of private meetings to establish future editions of the America’s Cup. “Larry and I might be a lot closer than the media and some people think. Our strategy has failed, everyone has realized that this is not constructive. We now have an opportunity to build something really successful for the future of the America’s Cup” said Bertarelli.
The new schedule would involve a series of Acts in the old America’s Cup boat next season, a newly designed AC boat for 2010 and a full America’s Cup series scheduled in the early summer of 2011.
