The team is gradually loading up the boat during the first few days of sea trials in Anacortes, WA, where the boat was built. Light breeze, flat water and sunshine continue to provide ideal testing conditions here on the Rosario Strait.
The sailing session is an on-the-water extension of the dockside load testing the team did last week in preparation for this week’s shakedown on the water.
“We are looking at a gennaker today; that will be quite exciting,” Spithill said about the gradual progression in exploring the boat’s performance potential.
“A lot of us have never done anything like this before, so we’re being conservative.”
On Thursday the boat will stay ashore in Anacortes as the team conducts a scheduled maintenance day.
