Owner-skipper-helm Peter de Ridder (NED) explains the decision:
"We’ve had some wonderful years in this class, but having lost our Mean Machine mojo on the road to success, the time has come to stop and take stock. I've considered the option to make changes to the team in order to get back on track, but that would not have done justice to the fantastic group of people we had for so many years.
There are times one has to realistically admit to have performed bellow its standards. Being the owner and skipper I take full responsibility for that"
Their official statement continues:
" This decision, which was by no means easy to make, does not signal the end of the team. Over the next few months and after a rest, the sporting future of this sailing platform known as Mean Machine will be decided."
The team extended their thanks to all the supporters, fans and Media who have followed the TP52 Mean Machine.
