‘My moment of truth’, by Bob Fisher, America’s Cup author and journalist:
“The defining moment of the 32nd America’s Cup was as the challenger and defender approached the windward mark for the second time in the seventh race. Everything hinged on which of them would round first. Emirates Team New Zealand was ahead but Alinghi was to windward. Well before the Kiwis tacked on to the port-tack lay-line, Brad Butterworth made the call: ”We will be dialling them.” From that decision came the penalty, whose exonerating turn cost Emirates Team New Zealand the race by the narrowest margin in Cup history and sealed Alinghi’s victory.”
